Your First Visit
We believe that orthodontics is about more than straightening teeth. It not only enhances a person's health and appearance, it also adds self-esteem and confidence.
The First Consultation
At your initial visit we will discuss you orthodontic concerns. In addition to a thorough clinical examination, we will talk about whether or not this is the best time to begin treatment, or if further growth and development is needed. Usually a definite treatment programme cannot be detailed until more information is gathered and analysed. This will usually include impressions, photographs and radiographs. Impressions are needed to obtain accurate plaster models of the teeth and dental arches so that we can measure their relationship to one another.
Photographs and radiographs will be used to determine where the imbalances and problems are and where to move each of the teeth within the upper and lower jaws.
If orthodontic treatment is needed these records will either be taken at the first appointment or you can be scheduled to have these records collected later. The initial visit is usually 30 - 45 minutes.
The Next Step
If orthodontic treatment is indicated a second consultation may be scheduled to allow your orthodontist time to inspect and analyse your records. At this visit treatment options will be discussed in more detail and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss your concerns. This appointment will take approximately 30 - 45 minutes.
It's a Partnership
Successful orthodontic treatment can only be achieved with your cooperation. That is why we work with you to make sure that you understand each part of the treatment. We are always available to answer your questions and keep you updated on treatment progress.
